We are happy to be back on our feet again to enjoy our last days of Christmas in school. The next week is all about Christmas activities.

Week 46 - 47

Hi parents,
The week 46 has been eventful. The school´s cultural group had invited ´action circus´ that we watched on Tuesday. We all had lots of fun! You can  watch the show on the school´s facebook page.

Wednesday play – ´Loranga´ was a different experience. For the most of them this was their first play involving real actors and not puppets :-). Everyone liked the play for the craziness the story is known to have. However, they were scared of the loudness and close to reality scene but unrealistic solutions. They played in Blecktorns Park after the play. Some of them slept on the bus on the journey back to school. We are sure they slept well that night.
Learn more about the play on - http://www.orionteatern.se/

Week 47

We are counting on less eventful week 47 that would give us time for our routine activities. However, the Christmas singing rehearsals are going to happen as temporary activity keeping our Fridays packed.

Many thanks for your participation in the window activity this week. The window looks rich and well-dressed :-) Letter of the next week is P.

Week 45 - 46

Hi parents,
The children are showing vast improvement every week. They are settling into the school routines very well. This inspires us to introduce new activities that need more of their participation/active listening. We started with ´class host ´ this week. Class host is the child who goes through the day´s plan and the calendar, takes attendance, keeps track of time and helps the teachers with the lessons whenever needed. The idea is to encourage them to participate in the class routines and learn to present - speaking, body language and also listening to each other with respect.
Apart from the regular, we are working diligently on Class council where the children express their views and opinions freely to the two class representatives – Bella and Benjamin. This week´s topic was - taking responsibility for the things happening around them. We discussed how far it is OK to avoid telling on their friends. We concluded after several examples (Police, thief and we citizens) that one should say STOP to the friend not being nice to you or to the others and then go to the teacher if that friend does not stop. Moreover, we concluded that teacher should be informed in any case. The class unanimously opined that approaching the teacher directly is better than involving in the fight to help a friend. Responsibility towards material goods was also discussed. We talked about cleanliness in the toilets.
We made fox face with autumn leaves!
Today we talked about how to deal if a stranger approaches them with promises of candies and puppies. We pointed out that if it does not feel right, they should say ´´No, Thank you!´´ and contact a trustworthy grown up around them.

Week 46

On Wednesday, the 4th of November the class is going to a play in a theatre located in Södermalm. We will leave at 9:00 which means that the children should be here by 8:50. The schedule for the play is very tight and we do not have possibility for waiting for the late comers. If it is not possible for you to drop your child before 8:50, you can drop them in FA. The children should bring packed lunch and water bottle from home. No nuts, sweets or carbonated drinks are permitted. Dress your child according to the weather.

Letter of the week is M. As we will be away on the Wednesday, we will work on the window on Thursday.

Week 42 - 43

Hi parents,
We had an outing to Mulle Mek on Thursday and Friday with half the class mixed with the Swedish classes. The idea was to mingle with the neighboring classes. We had fun!
We are celebrating Halloween on Friday the 23rd of October. We will have Halloween inspired activities in mixed groups during the school hours. The children are encouraged to have a costume during the school day. The school policy for such costumes/makeup is -
  •        No bloody make-up
  •       No facemask
  •       No weapons

They can also bring something ´yummy´ for not more than 20 kr. This may not contain nuts.

There will not be any letter for this week. We will be revising the letters done so far.

Reminder: APT on Tuesday the 20th of October (tomorrow). The fritids closes at 16:00.

The school remains closed for week 44. The fritids is open for those who are enrolled.

Have a nice week and Fall break!

Week 40 - 41

Hi parents,

The week has been great! The routines are getting better every week; the indoor shoes have found place in two boxes inside the classroom so there is less running around in the morning and the calendars are managed without help!
We have started with our first project – Seasons.

To practice a situation of crisis, the school is evacuated once every year and we walk to Emmanuel Church. This evacuation is going to take place on Friday the 9th of October at 9:00. It is therefore imperative for the pre-school children to be in the classroom no later than 8:50 that day. We need the ten minutes to get ready for the assembly in the football field.

The letter of next week is J.

Have a nice weekend!

Week 39 -40

Hi Parents,
The students are getting into the routine so well so fast that a little change alarms them :-) One such routine that we tried to play with was the alphabet window and we had lots of question about it. Here is what we will do –
Alphabet window is a Wednesday to Wednesday activity. The students bring the alphabet thing which is placed in the window for a week. As we are working on the consonants first, the order is nor alphabetical. Letter of the week 40 is H.

Please check your children for lice this weekend. We have one reported case of lice.

Reminder – Please answer the school-inspection survey. We value you feedback.

Have a great weekend!

Week 38 - 39

Hi Parents,
Our first outing day to the cycle school went very well despite bad weather. Along with the extra clothes your child should have indoor shoes. We are going to practice fire drill and teach them to vacate the building safely on Tuesday. We do not change to outdoor shoes to make it as close to real situation as possible. We are starting with Swedish and PE (Physical education) lessons from next week. The PE lessons will be on Tuesdays in the gym hall at 9:20. We would suggest that the children come to the school in their training clothes and bring a change of clothes and a towel in their gym bags.

INFORMATION
·         APT meeting on Tuesday the 22nd September (Week 39). The fritids closes at 16:00.

Week 37-38

Hi Parents,
The parent teacher talk is over and that gives us chance to pour all our attention to the children. We are planning to start with 2 lessons of Swedish (40 mins + 40 mins) and Physical education (40 mins). The boxes are finally here. The extra clothes should be put in these boxes so we have space for the jackets on the shelves.
  •       On Thursday the 17th of September, we are going to cycle school (Kungsträdgården) after the lunch break. We will be back by 15:15. If you need to pick your child earlier than 15:15, you should do that no later than 12:00.
  •       The letter of the week is ´D´.
  •       In good time, I would like to inform you about the upcoming APT meeting on Tuesday the 22nd September (Week 39). The fritids closes at 16:00.
 Have a great weekend!

Week 36 - 37

Hi Parents,

After much reminder and repetition, the children are slowly falling into routine. Even the lunch routine is running ´´like a well-oiled machine´´ quoting Jim. We go through the day´s activities through pictograms that can be seen on the board.

Please dress your child according to the weather and fill in extra clothes on their shelves. We are expecting to receive the delivery of new boxes for the clothes any day now. If you are missing any of your child´s belonging, check the boxes outside the classroom. Be sure to write your child´s name on all his/her belongings. There is a better chance of getting them back.

If you have not submitted the bilingual class form, please make sure to submit it by Wednesday next week. Find the form attached with the mail. You can also find extra copies in the classroom on the information wall (place where you signed up for the talks).

Calendar - We have started with a daily routine of recording date/weather in form of a calendar. The goal is to teach them numbers, names of the days of the week, months of the year, seasons and time related vocabulary. These calendars are not to be taken home.

Groups - We plan to resume our groups after next week when we are finished with the introduction talks.

Our buddy Tom - We have started another fun activity with a stuffed owl. The owl is called Tom and will be a buddy that follows a student, called the host, for a weekend. The task is to take picture/pictures with the owl spending the weekend with the host which he/she will be presenting in the class on Friday. Parents of the host are requested to mail me the digital pictures. Our goal with this activity is to encourage them to do a presentation and to write and read factual texts at a later stage.

Alphabet Corner – As mentioned during the parents-teachers meeting, next week on Thursday is the time to start the alphabet corner. The children should bring a thing starting with the letter of the week. This thing will be placed in the alphabet window until next Thursday when it is replaced by the next letter thing. You will be informed about the letter through the newsletter. Please do not send anything valuable or fragile as they are left unguarded in the window. Letter of the next week is B!

Question of the day – We pick a question that the children are encouraged to ask and find out the answer and research pertaining facts. For example, today we found out the difference between fog and mist.

Fruit time and reading – The children are allowed to bring a fruit (ONLY FRUIT) that they can eat after the recess during the reading time. It is optional.

We are reading Roald Dahl´s ´James and the giant peach´.

Information:
Class Photograph will be taken on Wednesday the 9th of September.

 Have a great weekend!
